
About Tessa
Tessa Johns (BMT, MTA) is a Certified Music Therapist with 13 years of experience supporting children and youth with diverse abilities. She holds a Bachelor of Music Therapy from Capilano University and is accredited as a Music Therapist (MTA) in Canada.

Tessa specializes in working with children with ADHD and developmental delays, primarily from birth to age 12, while also supporting families, seniors, and community groups. She offers group music therapy sessions, as well as family and intergenerational programming that fosters connection, communication, and shared meaningful experiences through music.
​
Her work with seniors goes beyond the traditional sing-along model and focuses on enhancing quality of life through music-based engagement, supporting memory, cognition, mood, and social connection.
In mothers’ groups and community settings, Tessa creates supportive spaces for emotional expression, regulation, and relationship-building through shared musical experiences.

Tessa’s approach is strengths-based, relational, and client-centered, drawing on a range of evidence-based music therapy methods. She believes deeply in each person’s innate capacity for growth and resilience.

Our family sessions provide a shared musical experience, fostering relationships and communication. Through interactive music activities, we promote bonding, joy, and understanding, creating a supportive atmosphere for family members of all ages to connect.

Music therapy in mothers groups can create a supportive space where participants enter into a safe space for emotional expression, stress relief, and connection with others. Through a variety of musical experiences we can help to regulate the nervous system while fostering a sense of community and shared understanding.

This programming is available for mothers of all ages and stages, including intergenerational gatherings.

Our Music Therapy sessions for Preschools and Dayhomes are tailored for children aged 18 months to 6 years. Through engaging and interactive activities, we can use music in developmentally appropriate ways to target a wide range of goals.

Our group sessions bring together individuals with similar interests and challenges. Participants engage in musical interventions that address a common idea or goal. In groups we can experience the power of collective expression, growth and development.

Typically group focus sessions take place over 4-8 weeks.

Music therapy for seniors goes beyond the typical singalong, offering a deeper, more enriching experience. Music has been shown to support memory, enhance emotional well-being, and promote cognitive engagement. This therapeutic approach can foster social connections among participants, creating meaningful shared experiences that can reduce anxiety and uplift spirits.

Tailored individual music therapy sessions focus on the unique needs of each client. Utilizing music, we explore personal goals, emotional challenges, and developmental milestones, addressing specific needs in a safe and supportive environment.
